Making Friends
Be yourself!
Having good friends around you is important, and can make you feel accepted and connected. If you’re unsure of how to try making new friends, try to be yourself. Don't be afraid to show your personality. Being yourself will attract friends who appreciate and like your uniqueness.
Be Kind and Respectful
Treat others with kindness and respect, even when you disagree with them.
You can be a good friend to someone if you listen, be patient, and let your friend know that you care about what they think.
Start Conversations
Start conversations with peers at school, during extracurricular activities, or in social situations. Be curious and willing to engage in conversations, try to find someone who likes some of the same things that you do!
It’s helpful to know what you like and what makes you happy – your favourite kind of music, movies you love, sports you enjoy, or reading books. When you find people who share your same interests, it helps you build a connection with them.
Join Clubs and Groups
See if there are any clubs or groups in your school, or community that you can join. Being brave and joining clubs or teams can help you meet people who you get along well with and can become a great friendship!
Share and Support
It feels good when you are supported and listened to, so it’s important to remember to do that for your friends. Be a good listener and let them know you are here for them if they are having a hard time.
Share your feelings, encourage them, and celebrate their accomplishments. A supportive friendship is a two-way street!
