How do I get help from safe adults ?
How do I get help from safe adults?
It’s common to be scared that no one will believe you, but it’s important to remember that you can find someone who will believe you!
Domestic violence is dangerous, and people can get hurt. It is against the law to hurt someone, and violent behaviour is never okay.
If this is happening in your house, make a list of people that you could trust to talk to.
One of the best people to tell is a doctor.
The next best person is the principal of your school, your teachers, or school counsellor.
Someone at church, temple or mosque would also be a good person to tell.
Tell a police person.
If you can’t tell one of those people, tell:
A friend
A sensible family members outside your house – Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts
A Neighbor
In case of an emergency, call 9-1-1
Here is some help on what to say when you call 9-1-1:
The people who answer will say, “Which emergency service do you require?”
You say: “Police”
You say: “My name is ____________ I am _____ years old.
You tell the problem: “I need help. Send the Police. Someone is hurting my ----- (mother / father / other loved one)” You say: “I am calling from ----- (give them your complete address)”
After you have said these things, the best thing for you to stay near the phone or if you don’t feel save tell the person on phone that you are keeping the phone down and wait for the police to come.
